Photo of Seaforth
A pair of Australian émigrés who found success in Nashville, Seaforth is a duo whose music is a sunny mix of pop melodies and lyrical country sensibilities, reinforced by close vocal harmonies. Tom Jordan and Mitch Thompson had been friends since before they were old enough to go to school, but they had known each other for almost two decades before they brought their talents together and wrote and sang as a team. They found an audience for their music in America, and their debut EP, 2019's Love That, was carefully crafted contemporary country with pop melodies and production, and the song "Talk to Me" brought them success on streaming services. The duo continued to rack up the streams with subsequent singles "Talk About" (2020), "Breakups" (2021), and "Good Beer" (2022). Seaforth was founded by vocalists and songwriters Tom Jordan and Mitch Thompson, and named for the suburb of Sydney where they were born and raised. Jordan and Thompson had known one another since they were three years old, and they both began making music at a young age. When Jordan was 11, he wrote a song called "Back Home," inspired by having to go shopping with his mother when he'd rather be elsewhere. The song was good enough to earn Jordan the prize for Best Original Composition in the 2005 Music and Arts Talent Search Teen Writers competition. As he honed his abilities as a songwriter, Jordan also worked on becoming a stronger performer, first busking in Sydney in his spare time and going on to share stages with the likes of INXS, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, and Guy Sebastian. Meanwhile, Jordan's close friend Thompson started performing in school theater productions, and at 13 he joined a rock band called Is It Her. The group won a loyal regional following, selling out club dates and opening for such stars as the Black Sorrows, the Radiators, and Daryl Braithwaite. In 2012, Thompson was a contestant on the Australian edition of the popular music competition series The Voice, and the following year, he was back on Australian television as a competitor on The X-Factor. In 2015, Jordan and Thompson decided to put their talents together and formed the duo Seaforth. Their close vocal harmonies and talent for writing and performing songs that mixed pop and country influences impressed audiences at home, but also earned them a reputation in Nashville. After several trips to the United States for writing sessions, Jordan and Thompson decided Nashville was where they and their music belonged, so Seaforth relocated to the Music City in 2017. That same year, the duo landed a record deal with RCA Records Nashville, and they started to learn how to make their music work in the recording studio. In April 2019, Seaforth released their debut EP, Love That, a four-song release that included the tune "Talk to Me," which racked up over 1.1 million plays on popular streaming services. Later that year, the duo teamed up with Mitchell Tenpenny for the track "Anything She Says," and in 2020 they released a string of big-hearted singles, including the streaming hit "Talk About." The uncharacteristically forlorn "Breakups" appeared in 2021 and was countered the following year with the laid-back "Good Beer," which saw them collaborating with country-pop crooner Jordan Davis.
