Steven Tyler is a hard rock and blues rock singer best known as the lead voice of Aerosmith, the band he fronted from the 1970s onward as it moved from clubs to the biggest rock festival stages. His own records took that voice somewhere else. The 2011 single "(It) Feels So Good" arrived first, and the 2016 solo album We're All Somebody From Somewhere leaned hard into the country influences running under his later writing.
He was around music before he could reach the keys. Born Steven Tallarico in Yonkers in 1948, he grew up with a classically trained father who let him sit under the piano while he practiced, which is where the ear came from.
Aerosmith is the long story, but not the only one. Tyler came up in The Chain Reaction, has played with The Boneyard Boys, and has toured as part of Kings of Chaos. As Aerosmith's lead singer he shares in the band's major awards, including Grammy recognition for songs such as "Janie's Got a Gun."
