Stone Sour is a hard rock band whose records also move through post-grunge, alternative metal, and alternative rock. Their run on Roadrunner Records took in Audio Secrecy in 2010 and the two-part House of Gold & Bones, split across 2012 and 2013, before Hydrograd arrived in 2017. Three Grammy nominations followed that body of work.
The band goes back further than most of its audience realizes. Stone Sour formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1992, started by Corey Taylor and Joel Ekman, and Taylor kept building it alongside his later job fronting Slipknot. That double life is part of what gives the band its shape: a hard rock group that has been active, in one form or another, for more than three decades.
Taylor has carried the band through a long list of players, with Josh Rand, Roy Mayorga, and Johny Chow among those filling out the lineup across the Roadrunner albums. For buyers, Stone Sour is a known quantity in hard rock: a live act suited to festival and fair lineups, casino stages, college events, and private engagements.
