Surf Curse has been working the seam between indie rock, surf rock and post-punk since 2012, with the lo-fi finish still audible under everything. The early records came out on the artist-run Danger Collective label, and the run from Nothing Yet in 2017 to Heaven Surrounds You in 2019 traced a band getting sharper without smoothing the edges off. Magic Hour arrived in 2022.
They started in Reno, Nevada. Drummer and singer Nick Rattigan and guitarist Jacob Rubeck formed the group there, a Nevada-bred duo who then became a fixture of the DIY garage and punk scenes in Los Angeles. That scene grounding is still the shape of the live show.
Rattigan and Rubeck have since been joined by Henry Dillon and Noah Kohll. Their single "Freaks" was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and platinum by the British Phonographic Industry, the kind of reach that fills a room with people who already know the words. That makes them a strong fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate events and private shows.
