Sweeping Promises is the duo of Lira Mondal and Caufield Schnug, a Boston band working the live wire where post-punk meets new wave and lo-fi indie rock. The project announced itself in 2020 with Hunger for a Way Out, the kind of debut that sounds like it was caught in one room with the tape still rolling. Good Living Is Coming for You followed in 2023 on Sub Pop, the move that put the duo on a national footing.
Mondal and Schnug found each other by chance. The two met in Arkansas and started playing together, building Sweeping Promises out of years spent in other bands and other recording rooms before the project took its own shape. That history shows in the sound: nothing about it is accidental, even when it feels like it was.
On record and on the road the core duo expands, with Rob Pope and Ryan Pope among the players who fill out the live unit. The band has carried that sound through rooms like AS220, the Bottleneck, and Paper Tiger, a track record that makes them a sharp fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, club dates, and private events.
