Taio Cruz is a London-born singer, songwriter, and producer who works across R&B, dance-pop, and electropop. His 2010 album Rokstarr put his name on records he had written and produced himself, and TY.O followed in 2011, pushing further into the dance and pop sound he had been building toward. He has stayed a writer and a producer as much as a frontman, which is why his catalog runs deeper than the singles that carried it.
He came up in Brent. Born Adetayo Ayowale Onile-Ere to Nigerian and Brazilian parents, he took the long route through the industry by building his own door into it: he founded the Rokstarr Music London label and used it to launch himself as a songwriter, producer, and solo artist rather than waiting to be discovered as one.
