Raised on an island in South Carolina, Trevor Hall developed an affinity for summery acoustic music, from the beachside ambience of Jack Johnson to the leisurely stroll of Bob Marley. After issuing an EP for Geffen Records, The Rascals Have Returned, as a teen in 2006, his song "Other Ways" was included on the soundtrack for Shrek the Third (2007). He continued to blend the sounds of reggae and roots music and the influence of Eastern mysticism on releases like 2011's Billboard 200-charting Everything Everytime Everywhere, 2015's KALA, and 2020's intimate In and Through the Body. A series of collaborations, including "Pacific Coast Highway" with the Hip Abduction and "Hold On" with roots outfit Gone Gone Beyond, appeared in 2022.
