Asal is the solo project of Asal Karimzadeh, an artist working across R&B and soul, alt pop, and the darker end of internet pop. She started with the self-released single "You" in 2022, sharpened the writing on "Missing Something" in 2024, and now records for Wovy Records, with "Kiss the Sun" arriving in 2026. The '90s R&B in her phrasing sits against production that leans alternative rather than radio, and that tension is the whole point.
She built the sound at home. Originally from Iran, Asal found her way into alternative soundscapes while living in Canada, and rather than study them from a distance she set about replicating them herself, releasing the results from her own room starting in 2022. Nothing about the catalog suggests a committee.
