Charles Wesley Godwin writes country-folk that carries the grain of Appalachia in it. He sings and plays guitar and fiddle, and the sound he has built leans into Americana and roots rock without ever losing the folk core underneath. His 2019 debut Seneca announced an artist working close to the bone, and the records since, on through to a live album cut in his own region, have only deepened that voice rather than chasing a new one.
He came up West Virginia to the core. Born in Morgantown in 1993, Godwin has built a catalog that reads less like a career ladder than like a man returning again and again to the same hills and the same questions, the Appalachian Americana that grounds everything he records.
Signed to Big Loud Records, Godwin has taken that sound out to rooms across the country, from The Eastern and The Signal to the Music City Center, and a 2025 live release captured him in the steel city itself. It is the work of a touring musician who fills real rooms, a grounded fit for fairs, festivals, college events, casinos, and private engagements.
