Sam Barber writes country music with rock and folk pulling at its edges. He got here the back way. Barber is from Frohna, and his first attempt at a wider audience did not work: he failed to make the cut for American Idol in 2022. TikTok did what the audition would not. His single "Straight and Narrow" went viral there, found the audience on its own terms, and went on to platinum certification in the United States.
That song brought a deal with Atlantic Records, and Barber now records for Lockeland Springs/Atlantic.
