Chuwi is a Puerto Rican group that plays plena and Caribbean rhythms with the instincts of an indie rock band, with Latin jazz surfacing in the arrangements and tropical fusion holding it all together. They released "No Te Mires Sin Virar" in 2020 and then stretched the idea across two albums, Pan in 2022 and Tierra in 2024, both issued under their own Chuwi imprint.
The band started in 2019 as a project between siblings Lorén and Wester Aldarondo and their friend Adrián López. What began among three people has since filled out into a larger group, with Willy Aldarondo Torres among the current members.
Wider audiences found them through "Weltita," their collaboration with Bad Bunny on his album "Debí tirar más fotos." Live, Chuwi has taken the material to rooms including the 9:30 Club, the Beacham Theatre, and Crowbar, where the plena foundation does the work a festival crowd wants and the songwriting holds a club audience still. It is a combination that travels well to college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate events, and private shows.
