Across the storied discography of American-Venezuelan singer-songwriter Devendra Banhart, feelings of serenity are omnipresent. Over the last decade, Banhart has released five studio albums, including a collaborative score with Gustavo Dudamel for Free Color, and record with producer Noah Georgeson titled Refuge (2021). His latest album, Flying Wig (2023), is a landscape of recurrent dualities; a can of paradoxes, a box of worms. Battle-scarred by life and loss, Banhart found himself despondent, folded inwards; finding it difficult to speak, let alone sing.
