Jerry Rivera is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter who works in salsa and romantic salsa, with Latin pop and the balada romántica tradition close at hand. His album Cuenta Conmigo went multiple times platinum and remains one of the best-selling salsa recordings ever made, the kind of record that fixes an artist's name to a genre. He has kept moving since: the tribute set Canto a Mi Idolo... Frankie Ruiz in 2003, then Caribe Gardel in 2007, records that look back at the singers who shaped him rather than chase the moment.
He came to the stage young. Rivera grew up in Humacao and started performing as a child in Los Barones Trio, his parents' group, fronted by his guitarist-singer father.
