Katy B is a vocalist working where dance, dubstep, UK funky and UK garage meet R&B. Her debut album, On a Mission, drew a Mercury Prize nomination in 2011 and set the pattern for what followed: club records built to carry a singer rather than bury one. Little Red came in 2014 and Honey in 2016, a run of full-length work that kept her in the clubs while the songwriting sharpened.
She came up inside the scene instead of arriving at it. Born Kathleen Anne Brien and from Peckham, she was working with UK underground grime, garage and house producers by the time she was 15 or 16, learning her craft as a vocalist on their tracks rather than in a writing room.
She records for RINSE, and her stage history runs through the rooms that made the music, among them Ministry of Sound, Phonox and LAB 11. That mix of chart-level songs and club-floor credibility makes her a strong booking for college programmers after a dance act with real dancefloor history, for festival and fair lineups, and for corporate and private events.
