Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a blues and blues rock guitarist and vocalist whose recording career has stayed remarkably steady across four decades of albums. He revisited his own early catalog on Trouble Is… 25 in 2022, then split his next batch of songs into two parts, releasing Dirt on My Diamonds, Vol. 1 in 2023 and Vol. 2 in 2024 through Mascot Label Group, the label that has issued his work since 2014. He also runs his own imprint, KWS Music, Inc.
He came to the instrument early and on his own terms. Shepherd is self-taught, and he began playing seriously at seven, after a face-to-face meeting with Stevie Ray Vaughan pointed him toward the guitar for good. He has carried that Shreveport blues grounding through every record since.
Alongside his own band, where he handles guitar and vocals, Shepherd has worked within G3, The Rides, and The Jim Irsay Band. The shelf behind him holds two Billboard Music Awards, two Orville H. Gibson Awards, and two Blues Music Awards, plus five Grammy Award nominations. He plays rooms as varied as the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater, the California Center for the Arts, and Kulttuuritalo, which makes him a straightforward fit for festival and fair lineups, casino showrooms, performing arts centers, college events, and private engagements.
