MJ Lenderman is an alternative country and indie rock singer-songwriter whose catalog has grown steadily since he self-released his first album in 2019. Boat Songs, in 2022, is the record that widened his audience. Manning Fireworks followed in 2024, and he now records for Epitaph.
He came up in Asheville, North Carolina, born Mark Jacob Lenderman. That 2019 debut went out on his own, at twenty, while he was working at an ice cream shop, which is about as unglamorous a starting point as a country rock record gets.
He also plays guitar in Wednesday, and his associated acts include Waxahatchee and Snocaps. His touring has taken him into rooms like Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Masonic, and the Paramount Theatre, making him a natural fit for college and festival lineups, theater dates, and private engagements.
