Kimbra is a New Zealand singer-songwriter who records across pop, art pop and indie rock. Her debut album, Vows, arrived in 2011 and set a steady release pace that continued with The Golden Echo in 2014 and Primal Heart in 2018.
She started early. Born Kimbra Lee Johnson in Hamilton, she entered the Rockquest popular music competition again and again as a high-school student, placing second in 2004 at the age of 14.
Her most widely heard credit is a collaboration: "Somebody That I Used to Know" with Gotye, which brought Kimbra two Grammy Awards, for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. She has also won Best Female Artist at the ARIA Music Awards two years in a row and took home five New Zealand Tui Awards in 2012. Kimbra performs as a solo artist, and that combination of hit-single recognition and three albums of her own writing makes her a strong fit for college campuses, festival and fair lineups, corporate events, casinos and private engagements.
