L'Impératrice is a Paris disco and funk group whose records have moved steadily outward from the nu-disco template they started with. Matahari arrived in 2018, Tako Tsubo followed in 2021, and Pulsar in 2024, a run that tracks a band getting more confident about writing pop songs without giving up the groove underneath them. They record for microqlima.
The group began as a project rather than a band. Keyboardist and composer Charles de Boisseguin founded it in 2012 as a six-piece built around modern disco and funk, and the lineup filled out over the following years. Vocalist Flore Benguigui joined in 2015, which is the point where the instrumental outfit became a group with a voice at the front of it.
De Boisseguin and Benguigui now anchor a lineup that includes bassist David Gaugué and drummer Tom Daveau, and the band has been active since 2012. Their live work has taken them to rooms as different as Campo Marte, The Street Ratchada Hall, and Royal Center, the kind of range that suits a set built to fill a large space. They are a strong fit for festival and fair lineups, college programming, corporate events, and private engagements looking for a live band that keeps a room dancing.
