Pixies are a Boston band working in alternative rock, indie rock, noise pop and punk rock, and they have been at it since 1986. Their catalog runs deep, and the recent stretch shows a group still adding to it rather than living off it: Head Carrier arrived in 2016, Doggerel followed in 2022, and The Night the Zombies Came came in 2024.
The band started with a roommate connection. Singer-guitarist Thompson, who performs under the stage name Black Francis, and guitarist Joey Santiago had shared a place as students at Boston University, and in 1986 the two of them decided to put a band together.
Kim Deal and David Lovering fill out the lineup most listeners picture when they hear the name. On the road, the band has played rooms including Maassilo, Muziekcentrum Enschede and Parco della Musica di Milano, and that mix of theaters, music centers and large industrial venues speaks to how the act scales. Pixies work as a headline draw for festival and fair lineups, college programming, corporate dates and private events.
