Lophiile is the recording name of Tyler Joseph Acord, an American solo artist whose work moves between R&B, soul, jazz and electronic funk. He has been releasing music since 2012, and the shift from the 2017 records Newno and Off Top to The Good Days Between in 2023 traces an artist settling into a fuller, album-length version of his alternative R&B. His music sits with No Tricks/Blue Note Records.
There is a family history behind that sound. His mother sang gospel, his father played trumpet, and another parent worked as a sound engineer, so Motown and soul were the records in the house. He went on to study jazz in college, and the gospel, the brass and the formal training all show up in the electronic soul he writes now.
Acord works alone, writing and producing under the Lophiile name, and the Blue Note association places him alongside a jazz catalog that his own training speaks to directly. It makes him a strong fit for college programming, corporate events, festival lineups, casinos, and private events looking for R&B and soul with real musicianship behind it.
