Mac DeMarco works in rock, indie rock, and jangle pop, with folk pop and indie pop threaded through a catalog he has kept expanding for years. This Old Dog arrived in 2017, Here Comes the Cowboy followed in 2019, and Five Easy Hot Dogs landed in 2023. He has released through Captured Tracks, Royal Mountain, Third Man Records, and Easy Eye Sound, and he runs his own imprint, Mac's Record Label, which puts the pace of his output in his own hands. He has also filed music under the names Makeout Videotape and Shitfather.
He came to the guitar at home. Born in Duncan, British Columbia, and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, DeMarco picked up the instrument during secondary school under his grandmother's guidance. That self-taught, family-taught start still shows in the loose, unfussy shape of the music.
The live schedule has taken him to rooms and outdoor stages including Küçükçiftlik Park, Auditorium Parco Della Musica, and Sequoie Music Park, the kind of range that suits a set built to play as well at a festival as in a seated hall. He is a strong fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate dates, and private engagements.
