Matt Hansen is a California singer-songwriter whose pop sits close to folk and rock, sometimes as indie pop and sometimes stripped back to acoustic and soft pop. His catalog began with the plainspoken heartbreak writing of "without you with me" in 2021 and "better off without me" the following year, and it has widened across more than thirty releases since, most recently the 2026 album "Orchid."
He came to songwriting from two directions at once. Born in 2000 in San Rafael, California, he grew up in a supportive home with music always playing, and he studied ethnomusicology at UCLA. The audience arrived before the catalog did: he started posting covers on social media, among them Coldplay's "Yellow" and the Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris," and drew a large following from them.
Hansen works as a solo artist, singer and songwriter both, and releases under his own name rather than an outside label. On stage he has played rooms including the National Arts Centre, The Riviera Theatre, and the Palace Theatre, a range that runs from formal seated halls to standing clubs. That flexibility makes him a practical fit for college programming, corporate events, fair and festival lineups, and private engagements, whether the night calls for a full band or a voice and a guitar.
