MC Eiht is a Compton rapper working in West Coast hip hop and gangsta rap, best known for his role as A-Wax in the 1993 film Menace II Society and its soundtrack's lead single, "Streiht Up Menace," widely considered his signature song. His catalog moves from the Compton's Most Wanted group records that made his name to a long solo run under his own banner, headlined by the Gold-certified We Come Strapped. Later projects include Keep It Gangsta in 2015 and Affiliated in 2016, and he records through Custom Choppaz Records LLC.
He came up out of Compton. Born Aaron Bernard Tyler on May 22, 1971, in Compton, California, he first gained recognition as a member of the West Coast hip hop group Compton's Most Wanted before establishing a solo career in gangsta rap, a pivot that Menace II Society helped launch.
Compton's Most Wanted is only the best known of his affiliations; his credits also run through War Zone, 1st Generation, and The Hoobang Affilliates. Beyond music, Eiht voiced the character Ryder in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, one of the best-selling games of its era, and now co-hosts the podcast Gangster Chronicles. His stage work includes a set at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre, and that combination of a Gold-certified catalog, a defining film and video game legacy, and deep West Coast roots makes him a strong fit for festival and fair lineups, college events, casino stages, and private engagements.
