Michael Clifford is the lead guitarist of the Australian pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer, and since 2025 a solo artist in his own right. His debut solo album, SIDEQUEST, arrived that year, followed by the single "cool," and the writing sits where his playing always has: pop rock with the edges of power pop, pop punk, and new wave still showing. He records for Hopeless Records.
He came to it young. Born November 20, 1995 in Quakers Hill, Australia, Clifford was working professionally by 2011, when 5 Seconds of Summer began, and he has been active without a break since. The band years brought multiple awards alongside his bandmates, and the solo material is the first time that decade and a half of playing has been filed under his own name.
Clifford remains a member of 5 Seconds of Summer, and his solo run has included headline dates at rooms such as The Fonda Theatre.
