Monsieur Periné is a Bogotá band that works where gypsy jazz meets Latin folk, Latin pop and Colombian pop. The group introduced that sound on Hecho a mano in 2012, widened it on Caja de música in 2015, and has kept moving since, most recently on Bolero apocalíptico in 2023. The records travel: Caja de Música earned a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album in 2016, and Encanto Tropical earned another in 2019. The band records for 5020 Records.
They started small. Monsieur Periné first performed together in 2007, during Holy Week in Villa de Leyva, playing traditional Latin American music against jazz, and then spent several years crossing Colombia on the festival circuit before anyone outside it knew the name.
Vocalist Catalina García fronts a lineup built around Santiago Periné, David González and Nicolás Junca, and the group has carried a Latin Grammy for Best New Artist in 2015 and a Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. Festival programmers know them from Monterey Jazz Festival, Lollapalooza Chile and Vive Latino, and the touring itinerary runs from the Miner Auditorium at SFJAZZ Center to the Miami Beach Bandshell. That range makes them a strong fit for festival and fair lineups, college programming, performing arts center dates and private events.
