Morcheeba have been making trip hop and downtempo records since 1995, well past the point where the style stopped being a trend, and the catalog reads like a group that kept moving instead of settling. Head Up High in 2013 leaned into the electronic side. Blackest Blue in 2021 came back to the hushed, vocal-led sound the London group built its name on. Escape the Chaos followed in 2025, three decades into the run, with more than two dozen other releases scattered behind it.
The band started in a studio, not on a stage. Paul and Ross Godfrey were already working together as producers, including on tracks for David Byrne's album Feelings, when they met singer Skye Edwards in London in the mid-1990s and turned that partnership into a group. Discovery Records carried the early work, and the template set in those sessions, slow electronic music built around a female vocal, is still the template now.
Skye Edwards has handled most of the singing across the band's life, with Daisy Martey among the vocalists who have fronted it along the way. The 1998 Lilith Fair run, where Morcheeba headlined the second stage, was the point the studio act became a live one, and the road has stayed busy since, from the Enmore Theatre to Forum Melbourne. They fit festival and fair lineups, college programming, corporate dates, casinos and private shows.
