Night Lovell is the Ottawa rapper Shermar Cuba Paul, working in the low, unhurried register where cloud rap meets dark trap. His debut, Concept Vague, landed in 2014, while he was still a teenager, and the records since have stayed with that sound rather than drifting from it: GOODNIGHT LOVELL in 2019, then Just Say You Don't Care in 2021.
He got to it early. Born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1997 to the rapper MC Renegade, he grew up around music as a working practice and was building his own tracks in his teens, which is why the first release arrived before most artists have a finished demo.
He records for G59 Records and has taken the material to rooms including 9th & Jackson, Liberty Hall and the Powerstation. A decade of releases and a live show built for club-scale rooms make him a clear fit for college programming, festival and club lineups, casino dates and private events.
