Nu Genea is the Neapolitan producer duo of Lucio Aquilina and Massimo Di Lena, working in funk, disco, afrobeat and jazz. They first recorded as Nu Guinea, arriving in 2016 with The Tony Allen Experiments: Afrobeat Makers, Vol. 3, an afrobeat study that pointed toward everything after it. Nuova Napoli followed in 2018 and turned the project toward home, and Bar Mediterraneo widened the frame in 2022. They record for Carosello Records.
The city is the point. Aquilina and Di Lena have been at this since 2014, and they work out of Napoli in the Neapolitan Power tradition, the lineage of Pino Daniele, Tullio De Piscopo and James Senese, filtered through electronic production, jazz-funk and jazz fusion rather than reproduced. What comes back is Neapolitan music built for a dance floor.
Live, the duo has played Teatro Del Maggio, Sequoie Music Park and the University of Sassari, a range that covers a proper theater stage, an outdoor park bill and a campus crowd with the same set of instincts. That makes Nu Genea a strong fit for college programming, festival and fair lineups, corporate events, and private engagements looking for a groove-driven international act.
