Q, the mononymous name Steven Marsden records under, writes R&B that keeps drifting toward synth-pop and back toward reggae without ever settling in one of them for long. He introduced that mix on Thoughts in 2018, stretched it across the full-length Forest Green a year later, then sharpened it into The Shave Experiment in 2020, an EP he thought worth returning to rather than leaving behind: the expanded Director's Cut followed in 2021.
The studio came before the stage. Raised in Pembroke Pines, Florida by musician parents, Q was already cutting tracks as a child in Jamaica, in rooms where his father was producing reggae and dancehall records for Sean Paul and Wayne Wonder. A songwriter who grew up watching records get built and rebuilt tends to write like one, and he does.
Signed to SME, Q was named to Spotify's RADAR US class in 2023, the same spring he went out as co-headliner of the Through the Soul Tour alongside Baby Rose, which launched May 28. A co-headline run of that size puts him within easy reach of college programmers, festival and fair buyers, corporate showcases, and private events.
