Rachel Chinouriri writes indie pop with the guitars left in, a sound that sits across alternative pop, pop rock and the Britpop revival. She arrived with the single "So My Darling" in 2018, tightened her writing over the releases that followed, including "Better Off Without" in 2022, and made the full statement with the album "What a Devastating Turn of Events" in 2024. She records for WMG.
She took the long route on purpose. Chinouriri is from Kingston upon Thames and a graduate of the BRIT School, and the stretch between that first single and her debut album went into refining her style rather than rushing a record out.
The recognition caught up in 2023, when she was shortlisted for BBC Sound of 2023 and for the Ivor Novello Rising Star Award. Her live dates have grown to match, taking in Finsbury Park, Marlay Park and Scotiabank Arena, which makes her a strong fit for festival and fair lineups, college programming, corporate dates and private events.
