Rae Sremmurd is the American hip hop duo of brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi, and their records sit where trap production meets pop rap instincts. SremmLife introduced them in 2015, and the BET Award for Best Group came the same year, an unusual thing for an act on its first album. What has kept them relevant since is that they never treated that opening as a peak: Sremm 4 Life landed in 2023, almost a decade on, with the same two names on the cover and the same label, Ear Drummer Records, behind it.
They came up out of Tupelo, Mississippi. Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown and Aaquil Iben Shamon Brown had been working together since 2008, which means the brothers spent years building the Rae Sremmurd sound before anyone outside Mississippi was listening. The 2015 breakthrough was not a sudden arrival so much as the point at which the rest of the country caught up.
Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee have since tested how far the partnership stretches, most plainly on 2018's SR3MM, and the duo's live work has carried them well past hip hop's usual rooms, including a set at Jimmy'z Monte-Carlo. That range is the selling point for buyers: a hip hop act with award-winning credentials, a catalog audiences already know, and a show that fits college programming, festival and fair lineups, casino stages, and private engagements.
