Rapsody makes hip-hop with one foot in r&b and soul, and 2017 was the year the industry caught up. She signed to Roc Nation, released her second studio album, Laila's Wisdom, to critical acclaim, and came away with two Grammy nominations, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album. Eve followed in 2019 and Please Don't Cry in 2024, the pace of a writer who releases when she has something to say rather than when the calendar asks.
She came up in a crew, not a spotlight. Wilson is where her roots are, and Kooley High is where she learned to hold her own on a track shared with other rappers, which is still audible in the way she builds a verse.
