Rayland Baxter is a singer-songwriter working where americana, alternative country, and indie folk meet. He introduced that voice on Feathers & Fishhooks in 2012, returned with Imaginary Man in 2015, and followed with Wide Awake in 2018. He records for Song Confessional.
He came to the music from close range. Baxter was raised in Tennessee, out in Bon Aqua, the son of pedal steel guitarist Bucky Baxter. For the album If I Were a Butterfly he spent more than a year living and recording largely alone in a former rubber-band factory studio in the Kentucky countryside, which is the kind of patience that shows up in the finished record.
Baxter performs as a solo artist, and his live work has carried him from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to The Salt Shed Outdoors and Wildwood Springs Lodge. He is a natural fit for festival and fair lineups, college campuses, corporate events, and private shows looking for a songwriter who can hold a room.
