Sara Bareilles is a singer-songwriter and pianist working in pop rock, soft rock, and the plainspoken singer-songwriter tradition. She released her debut album, Careful Confessions, in 2004, and a decade later she was competing at the top of the field: The Blessed Unrest drew a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year in 2014, with "Brave" nominated the same year for Best Pop Solo Performance. Amidst the Chaos, released in 2019 through Epic, deepened that run, and Good Grief arrives in 2026.
She came to the piano first. Bareilles grew up in Eureka, California, and developed as a singer-songwriter and pianist there before her debut record existed, which is why the songs still sound built rather than produced.
The awards have followed both halves of her work. "Saint Honesty" won the Grammy for Best American Roots Performance in 2020, and the 2022 Broadway cast recording of Into The Woods won Best Musical Theater Album in 2023, alongside earlier nominations for "King of Anything" and "Love Song." She performs as a solo artist, and her stages range from the Hotel Cafe to the Beacon Theatre, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and the Gorge Amphitheatre, which makes her a strong fit for theaters and performing arts centers, college and corporate audiences, festival and fair lineups, and private engagements.
