SWV, short for Sisters With Voices, is an R&B group whose sound runs through contemporary r&b, hip hop soul, and new jack swing. Their 1993 single "Weak" reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. On RCA Records the group kept working through the years that followed, from 1997's Release Some Tension to I Missed Us in 2012 and Still in 2016.
The trio came together in the Bronx. Leanne "Lelee" Lyons, Cheryl "Coko" Gamble, and Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George grew up in New York and began singing in church before joining forces in the late 1980s. That church-rooted harmony stayed at the center of the group they built.
Coko, Taj, and Lelee have carried SWV to stages including Capital One Arena and the Texas Trust CU Theatre at Grand Prairie. Their catalog and their live reputation make them a strong fit for festival and fair lineups, corporate events, casino dates, and private engagements.
