Virtual Self is the moniker of American electronic music producer and DJ Porter Robinson. Robinson created Virtual Self as a side project in 2017 as an homage to the early 2000s dance music scene. The project features a blend of trance, techno, and breakbeat with heavy use of nostalgic video game and anime references. Virtual Self's debut self-titled EP was released in November 2017 to critical acclaim, with its lead single "Ghost Voices" receiving widespread recognition. Robinson has since performed live as Virtual Self, including a highly acclaimed set at Ultra Music Festival in 2018. Virtual Self has become a favorite among electronic music fans for its unique sound and retro-futuristic aesthetic.
