Josh Turner is a country singer who works the neo-traditionalist end of the genre and moves freely into country gospel. His UMG catalog has held that line across two decades and more than twenty releases, from Deep South in 2017 through Country State Of Mind in 2020 and This Country Music Thing in 2024, an arc that keeps circling back to traditional country rather than away from it.
He came up on 80 acres. Turner was born on November 20, 1977, and grew up on his family's plot of land in Hannah, South Carolina, then studied vocal music at Belmont University in Nashville, which put formal training behind a sound built on where he started.
The gospel side of that catalog earned him a GMA Dove Award in 2021 for "I Saw The Light," his duet with Sonya Isaacs from the album I Serve a Savior. South Carolina has claimed him twice since: the Order of the Palmetto in 2023, then induction into the South Carolina Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame in 2024.
