Lake Street Dive is a Boston band whose catalog on Fantasy Records moves between pop, soul, jazz, and indie pop without settling in any one of them. Free Yourself Up, released in 2018, sits at the pop soul end of that range, and Good Together, released in 2024, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category. Paste had already named Side Pony one of its 50 Best Albums of 2016.
The group did not start out this way. They formed in 2004 as a free country band, the members intending to play country music in an improvised, avant-garde style. They have been working under the same name ever since, which is now two decades of shows.
Rachael Price sings out front, with Bridget Kearney, Akie Bermiss, and Mike Calabrese filling out the band.
