Lauren Spencer Smith is a Canadian pop singer-songwriter, a solo artist whose writing pulls toward pop-soul. She released Unplugged, Vol. 1 in 2019 and picked up a Juno Award nomination for it the following year. Her single Fingers Crossed went viral in 2022, and her debut album Mirror arrived in 2023. She did not start out on Vancouver Island. Born in Portsmouth, England, she moved to the island as a child and grew up there, then competed in the 2020 season of American Idol, which put her in front of a wider audience two years before Fingers Crossed did the rest.
