Lucy Dacus is an indie rock and indie folk singer-songwriter with a catalog that has grown steadily since her debut. No Burden came out in 2016 on EggHunt Records, and Matador signed her after it and has released her work since, including Home Video in 2021 and Forever Is a Feeling in 2025. Her writing sits in the singer-songwriter tradition, close to the folk end of indie rock.
She came to it early. Dacus grew up just outside Richmond, Virginia, in a house run by a mother who taught music, and she was singing long before she was recording.
Since 2018 she has also been one third of boygenius, the indie group she formed with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, whose EP drew wide critical notice and pulled the trio onto festival bills and into the press. Her own dates move between outdoor stages and seated theaters, from The Stone Pony Summer Stage to Mass MoCA and the Ulster Performing Arts Center, which makes her a practical booking for college campuses, festival and fair lineups, performing arts centers, and private engagements.
