Paul Cauthen sings country and Americana with the volume of a rock act. His 2016 album My Gospel put him on the map, landing at number 23 on Rolling Stone's list of the top 40 country records of that year. Room 41 followed in 2019, and Country Coming Down arrived in 2022, filling out a catalog that keeps one boot in traditional country and the other in alternative country and country rock. The voice was handed down. Cauthen is a native of East Texas, raised in Tyler, and he learned to sing and play from his grandfather, a Lubbock songwriter who ran with Buddy Holly and the Crickets. That lineage sits underneath everything he cuts.
