Rascal Flatts are a country trio working in the country pop and country rock range, with a catalog on Big Machine Records that stretches back to 1999. The group's arc runs from the harmony-driven country of their early years to "How They Remember You" in 2020, the same year they took stock of the whole run with "Twenty Years of Rascal Flatts - The Greatest Hits." They returned in 2025 with "I Dare You," proof that the group's second act is still being written.
The band came together the way a lot of Nashville acts do, on a small stage rather than in a boardroom. Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus are second cousins out of Columbus, Ohio. Joe Don Rooney came from Picher, Oklahoma. The three began playing together at a bar in Nashville's Printers Alley, and the chemistry they found there turned into Rascal Flatts around 1999, with LeVox on lead vocals and DeMarcus on bass and backing vocals.
The industry recognized them early and kept doing it: New Vocal Group of the Year from the Academy of Country Music in 2001, the Country Music Association's Horizon Award in 2002, and Vocal Group of the Year from both the CMA and the ACM in 2003. Later came an American Music Award for Artist of the Year and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They are featured Grand Ole Opry artists, and their touring history includes rooms like the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys and the Choctaw Grand Theater, a range that makes them a strong fit for fair and festival lineups, casino showrooms, college dates, corporate events, and private engagements.
